StoneEagle, an F&I solutions provider for the automotive industry, will debut a new repair story experience in Pencilwrench at the NADA Show, designed to support the increasing complexity of modern vehicle diagnostics and repairs.

As vehicles incorporate more interconnected systems and layered diagnostics, repair documentation has become more critical to dealer fixed operations. Clear, consistent repair stories support warranty reimbursement, help protect dealer revenue, and promote standardized documentation across service departments.

“For years, Pencilwrench has helped technicians document their work consistently,” said StoneEagle CEO Cindy Allen. “This update reflects how vehicle diagnostics have changed and focuses on helping technicians document work clearly and accurately.”

Repair Documentation Aligned With Modern Diagnostics

The new Flex Story feature uses a redesigned Pencilwrench interface that allows technicians to start documentation at the system level, extending the platform’s existing component-based workflow. The structure is intended to better align repair stories with OEM diagnostic processes while keeping related diagnostics and repairs within a single record.

Voice-to-text functionality is included to simplify capturing diagnostic findings and supporting details during the repair process, reducing documentation time.

Updated Review And Workflow Tools

The updated interface also changes how technicians review and complete repair stories. A stage-based progress tracker allows technicians to navigate through diagnostics, repairs and post-repair steps to review or update information without restarting the documentation.

Drag-and-drop reordering enables technicians to adjust the sequence of steps so documentation reflects how work was performed. Inline editing tools allow readings and notes to be updated directly in the repair story.

“When vehicles evolve, documentation tools need to evolve, as well,” said StoneEagle Chief Product Officer Colin Snyder. “This update keeps repair documentation aligned with current diagnostic practices and fixed-ops requirements.”

StoneEagle will showcase the updated Pencilwrench Flex Story at NADA booth 2109W. Allen is also scheduled to appear on the NADA Live Stage for her 2025 Year-in-Review presentation at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 5.
